Balancing Truth And Grace: Responding to Accusations of Judgement

*_Balancing Truth and Grace: Responding to Accusations of Judgment_* We may encounter situations where we are accused of being judgmental when we stand firm on matters of right and wrong, based on the teachings of Scripture. It is important to know how to respond biblically to such accusations while upholding the truth with wisdom and grace. Proverbs 9:7-8 sets the stage for our approach: *"He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, and he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself. Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; rebuke a wise man, and he will love you."* It is essential to discern whether the person being corrected is receptive to wisdom or simply scoffing at it. The Bible also offers a principle of discernment in Matthew 7:6: *"Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces."* This verse tells us to be discerning about when and how to share pro...

Breaking the Chains of Bitterness: A Call to Forgiveness

*_Breaking the Chains of Bitterness: A Call to Forgiveness_* As believers, it is crucial that we address the issue of bitterness and the harboring of grudges, for it not only hinders our spiritual growth but also hampers our witness to the world. Today, we explore the significance of confronting and overcoming bitterness in the light of God's Word. Ephesians 4:31-32 sets the tone for our discussion: *"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you."* Here, we are urged to rid our hearts of bitterness and anger and instead cultivate an atmosphere of kindness and forgiveness. Hebrews 12:15 provides a strong warning against bitterness: *"Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled."* Bitterness is likened to a...

How to Get Closer to God

Image
How to Get Closer to God*  God wants a relationship with us and promises to reward those who seek to draw closer to Him (Hebrews 11:6).  Here are some things each of us can do to foster a greater relationship with our creator. 1. Pray This is how we talk with God. It’s an open line of communication that allows us to build a relationship with Him. Remember, prayer is about you and God, so be humble and don’t make a show of it to others. “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you” (Matthew 6:6 NIV). Not sure how to pray? Check out the template Jesus gives us in Matthew 6:9-13— otherwise known as The Lord’s Prayer. 2. Read the Bible. This is how we know who God is and how He works—because Scripture is literally His inspired Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17). As we study the Bible, we understand God’s purpose for our lives, so it’s important to consider the context o...

Be Perfect

*BE PERFECT!*   *_I have walked before Thee with a Perfect Heart._*  'Then Hezekiah prayed unto the- Lord, saying, I beseech Thee, 0 Lord, remember now how I have walked before Thee in truth, and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in Thy sight. And the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, Tell Hezekiah, thus saith the Lord, I have heard thy prayer: behold, I will heal thee.'—2 Kings Xx. 2-5. WHAT a childlike simplicity of intercourse with God. When the Son was about to die, He spake, 'I have glorified Thee on earth, I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do. And now, 0 Eather, glorify Thou Me.' He pleaded His life and work as the ground for expecting an answer to His prayer. And so Hezekiah, the servant of God, also pleaded, not as a matter of merit, but in the confidence that 'God is not unrighteous to forget our work of faith and labour of love,' that God should remember how he had walked before Him with a perfect heart. The...
