Where Else Can We Go? The Unwavering Faith of Peter

Image
*_Where Else Can We Go? The Unwavering Faith of Peter_* In the Gospel of John, we encounter a powerful moment when Jesus' words caused many of His followers to desert Him. In John 6:66, it is recorded: *"From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more."* This scene highlights a reality that persists even today—many people struggle to accept the demands of following Jesus. Indeed, throughout history, countless individuals have responded to Jesus in a similar manner. They hear His teachings, witness His miraculous works, and yet, when confronted with the depth of His call, they choose to turn away. The reasons for their departure may vary, but ultimately, it boils down to one common factor—the perceived cost is too high. It's true, what Jesus asks of us is sometimes difficult. He calls us to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). He challenges us to love our enemies, forgive those who have wronged us, and live liv...

Easter: A Call to Genuine Repentance and Transformation

Image
*_Easter: A Call to Genuine Repentance and Transformation_* As we gather to celebrate Easter, let us remember the profound significance of the sacrifice made on the cross by our Savior, Jesus Christ. His death was not merely a historical event to be commemorated, but a divine act of love that demands a response from each of us. Romans 5:8 reminds us of the depth of God's love: *"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."* Jesus willingly laid down His life for us, not because we deserved it, but out of His boundless grace and mercy. Yet, the message of the cross extends far beyond a call to simply be nice to one another. Jesus did not endure the agony of the cross so that we could merely live comfortable, self-centered lives, avoiding confrontation and accountability. He died to reconcile us to God and to call us to a life of genuine repentance and transformation. 2 Corinthians 5:15 declares: *"and He died...

God's Battle Axe

Image
GOD'S BATTLE AXE Jer. 51: Thou art my battle axe and the weapons of war: for with thee will I  break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms God can do great things through the instrumentality of men if only we will allow Him to work through us. Man is God's battle axe and weapon of war. He is the one God will use to pull down the kingdom of darkness and cut the bars of iro  God does not use just anybody. He only uses a man He has prepared and sharpened in His quarry. I kgs. 6:7 GN In 1 Sam. 17:12-51, God prepared David as His battle axe and weapon of war. He fought with Lion and Bear (vs 37) and prevailed. He confronted Goliath and again he prevailed In Ex. 12:28-37, God uses Moses as His battle axe and weapon of war. He converted him from a murderer to a shepherd. It took God forty years to achieve that. He then sent him to Egypt as His battle axe and weapon of war to break into pieces the nation of Egypt, deliver His people, and lead them to the ...

What Are Your False Lenses

Image
*_What are your False Lenses?_* Many of us have come to know and believe in God's love. We understand that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that the Holy Spirit dwells within us. However, despite this knowledge, many of us still struggle with fear and anxiety, lacking joy in our lives. Why is that? One reason may be that we are viewing ourselves and the world through false lenses. We have beliefs that are not grounded in the truth of God's Word, and as a result, we are not experiencing the fullness of the abundant life that Christ promises us. Let us examine some of these false lenses and counter them with the truth of God's Word: False Lens #1: _"God cannot be trusted."_ Bible: *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."* Proverbs 3:5-6 False Lens #2: _"I am what I do."_ Bible: *"For by grace you have been saved through faith,...

The Risen King: Honouring the Saviour's Sacrifice and Glory

Image
*_The Risen King: Honoring the Savior's Sacrifice and Glory_* As we gather to celebrate Easter, let us direct our hearts and minds to the One who is the very essence of this sacred season. Let us pause to reflect on the journey of our Savior, from the splendor of Heaven to the victory of the empty tomb. Philippians 2:6-8 captures the humility and sacrifice of Jesus: *"who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross."* Indeed, Jesus willingly laid aside His heavenly glory and entered the world as a humble babe. He lived a sinless life, yet He endured suffering and shame at the hands of His own creation. He was crucified among thieves, mocked, and ridiculed, yet He went to the cross willingly, motivated by His...

The Call to Gather: Prioritizing Church in Our Lives

Image
*_The Call to Gather: Prioritizing Church in Our Lives_* Attending church plays a vital role in our spiritual growth and devotion to God. It is not merely a tradition or obligation but a profound expression of our commitment to honor and worship the Lord. Hebrews 10:25 urges us, *"not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."* This verse emphasizes the importance of gathering together with fellow believers to encourage and uplift one another in our faith journey. As Christians, we acknowledge that all the days of our lives belong to God. Psalm 118:24  declares, *"This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it."* By setting aside time to attend church, even amidst our busy schedules or inconveniences, we honor God and recognize His sovereignty over our lives. It is essential to recognize that God is the source of our strength and bl...

The Danger of Chasing Emotional Experience: Staying Grounded in Biblical Truth

Image
*_The Dangers of Chasing Emotional Experiences: Staying Grounded in Biblical Truth_* In recent years, we have witnessed a troubling trend within certain circles of Christianity—an emphasis on seeking emotional experiences with the Holy Spirit. This trend is often perpetuated by so-called preachers who promote events with phrases like _"Come experience the Holy Spirit tonight"_ or _"Come and be touched by the Spirit."_ While the desire to encounter the Holy Spirit is commendable, the methods and expectations promoted by these preachers raise concerns. Ephesians 1:13-14 reminds us: *"In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory."* As believers, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit upon our conversion, and His presence rema...

How Can I Live My Life For Jesus

Image
*How Can I Live My Life For JESUS?* We all live for something. Parents may live for their children. Spouses may live for each other, and business owners may live for success. We say that we are “living for” something when that is the motivation for all we do. Living for Jesus means that pleasing Him is our highest aim (Colossians 1:10).  Although we have dozens of lesser motivators, those filled with the Spirit of Christ are motivated primarily by His goals and His plans for their lives. When those plans collide with lesser goals, those who are living for Jesus follow His way and not their own (Proverbs 3:5–6). The phrase living for Jesus can sound ethereal and idealistic. But Jesus warned that living for Him would be costly (Luke 14:26–33). The first disciples were willing to pay that price. They suffered tremendous persecution and even death in order to glorify God (Acts 5:41). Stephen was stoned (Acts 7:58–60), James was beheaded (Acts 12:2), and history records that all ...

How Should a Christian Respond to Persecution

Image
**How should a Christian respond to persecution?*  There is no doubt that persecution is a stark reality of living the Christian life. Christian persecution is to be expected: the apostle Paul warned that “everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Tim3:12).  Jesus said that, if they persecuted Him, they will also persecute His followers (John 15:20). Jesus made it clear that those of the world will hate Christians because the world hates Christ. If Christians were like the world—vain, earthly, sensual, and given to pleasure, wealth, and ambition—the world would not oppose us. But Christians do not belong to the world, which is why the world engages in Christian persecution (see John 15:18–19).  Christians are influenced by different principles from those of the world. We are motivated by the love of God and holiness, while the world is driven by the love of sin. It is our very separation from the world that arouses the world’s a...

What is the Significance of Palm Sunday?

Image
*What is the Significance of Palm Sunday?*  “Joyful acclamations at Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem, followed by his humiliation. Festive cries followed by brutal torture. This twofold mystery accompanies our entrance into Holy Week each year, as reflected in the two characteristic moments of today’s celebration: the initial procession with palm branches and the solemn reading of the Passion.” – Pope Francis  Palm Sunday is celebrated on the Sunday before Easter each year and marks the start of Holy Week.  But what is the actual significance of this Holy Day, and how does it play a part in the greater story of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection?  *The Palm Sunday Account*  Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem with His disciples to celebrate Passover. When they reached the Mount of Olives, He sent two of the disciples to retrieve a donkey colt for Him to ride. He instructed them to untie it, and if anyone asked them why they were doing so, to tell them tha...

The Greatness of God's Love and Holiness

Image
*_The Greatness of God's Love and Holiness_* Our God is holy, great, and mighty. The vast expanse of the heavens proclaims His glory, as Psalm 19:1 declares, *"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork."* The moon and the stars, suspended in perfect harmony, bear witness to His power and majesty. Our finite minds struggle to comprehend the vastness of His creation, yet it reflects His infinite greatness. In the face of such greatness, we may feel unworthy and insignificant. Yet, despite our flaws and shortcomings, God's love for us remains unwavering. Romans 5:8 reminds us, *"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."* His love surpasses our understanding and extends even to the undeserving. We are eternally grateful for this immeasurable gift of love. Our hearts are filled with awe and wonder as we contemplate the depths of His love and the magnitude of His holin...

The Danger of Downplaying Sin: Recognizing the Weight of Wrongdoing

Image
*_The Danger of Downplaying Sin: Recognizing the Weight of Wrongdoing_* The downplaying of personal sin is a subtle yet destructive habit where individuals minimize the significance of their wrongdoings, often in an attempt to comfort themselves that all is well. However, this self-deception can lead them down a perilous path toward destruction. The Bible is clear about the consequences of sin. Romans 6:23 reminds us: *"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."* Sin carries a weighty cost, and it is crucial that we do not underestimate it. One common way people downplay sin is by comparing themselves to others. They might say, _"I'm not as bad as that person"_ or _"At least I haven't done what they've done."_ However, this comparison game is a dangerous trap. 2 Corinthians 10:12 warns: *"For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, me...

Choosing the Right Partner: Building a Godly Foundation for Relationships and Marriage

Image
*_Choosing the Right Partner: Building a Godly Foundation for Relationships and Marriage_* In the journey of relationships and marriage, the choice of a partner is crucial. It's not just about finding someone who makes us feel good, but rather someone who aligns with our values, shares our faith, and is committed to becoming a godly spouse. Before embarking on this journey, let's consider some essential principles guided by God's Word. *Foundation of Faith:* The foundation of a strong relationship is a shared faith in Christ. 2 Corinthians 6:14 reminds us *not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers.* A partner who is rooted in their relationship with God is better equipped to navigate the challenges and joys of life together. A godly spouse will understand the importance of mutual spiritual growth and seeking God's will. *Stability in Christ:* Before considering a relationship, ensure the other person is stable in their own walk with Christ. Ephesians 3:17 encourages ...

Fear: The Enemy to Our Faith

Image
*FEAR: THE ENEMY TO OUR FAITH*  Fear is an emotion caused by the belief that something or someone poses a threat to us.  We can all remember feeling this destructive emotion at some time, and we’re familiar with how it affects our ability to do what needs to be done. Fear in any area is never okay, especially if it keeps us from fulfilling God’s mission for us.  However, trusting His Word to us in this area strengthens us to overcome it and keep moving forward. We’re not ordinary people, but children of God, Himself. When we truly believe this, fear loses its grip on us. “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father”(Romans 8:15).  The spirit of fear causes us to weaken our resolve and shrink back. The Spirit of God enables us to overcome whatever adversity or trouble presents itself. Fear is from the devil, and it’s the enemy to our faith. It directly contradicts the Wo...

Freedom With Responsibility: Avoiding Stumbling Blocks

Image
*_Freedom with Responsibility: Avoiding Stumbling Blocks_* As believers, we rejoice in the freedom we have in Christ, knowing that we are no longer bound by the constraints of the law but are redeemed by His grace. However, it is crucial for us to understand that our freedom should not become a stumbling block to others, especially to those who are weaker in their faith or still grappling with discerning right from wrong. Allow me to illustrate this principle with a scenario: Imagine a Christian who thoroughly enjoys reading Harry Potter books or watching the movies. He is an avid fan of the series and finds great pleasure in immersing himself in the magical world of Hogwarts and its characters. However, during a small group meeting at church, the discussion veers toward the topic of witchcraft, and Harry Potter is mentioned. Our Harry Potter enthusiast fervently defends his love for the series, arguing that there is nothing inherently wrong with enjoying such entertainment. Now,...

What is Christian Discipleship?

Image
*WHAT IS CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP?*   _Being a real Christian and a good disciples of Jesus Christ_ ‼️ By definition, a disciple is a follower, one who accepts and assists in spreading the doctrines of another.  A Christian disciple is a person who follows Jesus Christ and accepts and assists in the spreading of the good news of salvation through Him.  Christian discipleship is the process by which disciples grow in the Lord Jesus Christ and are equipped by the indwelling Holy Spirit to overcome the pressures and trials of this present life and become more and more Christlike.  This process requires believers to respond to the Holy Spirit’s prompting to examine their thoughts, words, and actions and compare them with the Word of God.  This requires that we be in the Word daily—studying it, praying over it, and obeying it. In addition, we should always be ready to give testimony of the reason for the hope that is within us (1 Peter 3:15) and to disciple...

The Danger of Secret Sin: Insight from Scripture

Image
*_The Danger of Secret Sin: Insights from Scripture_* In recent times, we have been confronted with sobering news of men and women of God who, despite their years of service and ministry, have been living secret lives of sin. These revelations serve as a stark reminder of the timeless truth conveyed in 1 Samuel 15:22: *"Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice."* This verse takes on a profound significance as we reflect on the implications of living in obedience to God's commands. It speaks volumes about the importance of heeding the still small voice of the Holy Spirit, which often nudges us toward righteousness and away from the path of sin. It's crucial to understand that obedience to God goes beyond outward acts of sacrifice or religious rituals. True obedience involves a daily surrender to His will, aligning our thoughts, words, and actions with His divine purpose for our lives. Moreover, Hebrews 4:13 reminds us that *"there is no creature hidden from His ...
