Developing a Culture of Discipleship in Ministry

Image
DEVELOPING A CULTURE OF DISCIPLESHIP IN MINISTRY  TEXT: MATTHEW 28:19-20 MARK 16:15-16  INTRODUCTION  This is a wake-up call and a lovely reminder for ministers to focus more on the very essence of our calling which is: *TO MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS* (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15-16).  It's time to shift from mere activities to intentional and local discipleship-making. Additionally, to invest in people by teaching them God's Word and empowering them to rise from disciples to disciplers, thereby spreading the Gospel globally.  The world needs authentic followers of Jesus, so let's rise to this challenge! THE ESSENCE OF DISCIPLESHIP The core essence of discipleship is following Jesus Christ and becoming like Him. It's about surrendering to His lordship, learning from His teachings, and living out His ways. In Mark 8:34, Jesus says, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me." It's all about loyalty, obedie...

Becoming Like Christ

Image
Becoming Like Christ “Take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you.” Ephesians 4:22-24 (MSG) For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29 (KJV) Many religions and philosophies promote the old lie that people are divine or can become gods. Let me be absolutely clear: You will never become God or even a god. That prideful lie is Satan’s oldest temptation. Satan wanted Adam and Eve to follow his advice and promised them: “You will be like God . . .” (Genesis 3:5 NIV). This desire to be a god shows up every time you try to control your circumstances, your future, or people around you. But you’re a creature; you will never be the Creator. God doesn’t want you to become a god; he wants you to become godly, taking on his values, attitudes, and chara...

The Daily Disciples' Cross

Image
The Daily Disciples' Cross One of the greatest hindrances to our spiritual growth and witness is the quiet, cherished sin of taking offense and nursing bitterness. We cling to our grievances as justified, all while Christ’s command is utterly clear and undeniably costly: "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me" (Luke 9:23). This daily cross is not a metaphor for hardship; it is the instrument of execution for our most stubborn idols—chief among them, our precious "right" to be hurt, our sense of justice that demands others pay, and the bitter root that poisons our soul. Holding onto offense is to choose a self-made prison over the freedom of the cross. "Looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled" (Hebrews 12:15). Your bitterness does not punish the one who wronged you; it spiritually ...

God is Your Strength When You Are Weary Weary

Image
God is Your Strength When You Are Weary .. Life can leave us exhausted—physically drained, emotionally spent, and spiritually weary. In these moments, God does not scold our tired hearts; He invites us into His rest. *"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest"* (Matthew 11:28). This is not a conditional offer—it is a promise for all who feel the weight of the world upon their shoulders. Even the strongest faith can grow faint under prolonged strain. The prophet Isaiah reminds us, *"He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength"* (Isaiah 40:29). God does not ask us to pretend we're not tired. Instead, He meets us in our exhaustion and offers His supernatural strength. "Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31). Your weariness does not mean you have ...

Created to Worship

Image
Created to Worship God speaks through the prophet Isaiah a breathtaking truth about His people: "This people I have formed for Myself; they shall declare My praise" (Isaiah 43:21). This is not merely a call to a religious activity; it is a revelation of our fundamental identity and purpose. We were formed by God and for God. Our default position, our very reason for existence, is to worship Him. This worship is not confined to a Sunday morning song or a private prayer—it is the totality of a life oriented around declaring His excellence. Worship is the thread meant to weave through every area of our existence. For the young, it is honoring God in friendships, studies, and passions. For the old, it is declaring His faithfulness through wisdom, testimony, and perseverance. At work, worship is integrity and excellence. At home, it is love and service. In joy, it is gratitude; in trial, it is trust. The Apostle Paul echoes this holistic call: "Therefore, whether you eat or...

Setting Clear Goals in Life

Image
Setting Clear Goals. In Life Introduction: As we established before, a goal is something you look forward to achieve. It is at the beginning of the year that most set their annual goals. You may ask why set goals?  Habakkuk 2:2 [2]Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. The conjunction 'THAT' in this context is used to introduce the purpose or the desired result. Therefore, when the Bible says write the vision plain upon tablets that he may run who reads it, it means that the vision is written for the purpose of helping you run or to produce the result of moving; focused activity and progress. It motivates you to move towards an end. A runner is motivated to run by the fact that there is a prize (there is an end to achieve). A footballer also plays well so that they may score a goal. Apostle Paul also writes by inspiration that he presses on towards a goal;   Philippians 3:14 [14]I pres...

Signs Your Marriage is Slowly Dying

Image
‎Signs Your Marriage Is Slowly Dying  ‎introduction: ‎Marriage is like a garden. If you water it daily, remove weeds, and give it sunshine, it flourishes. But if you neglect it, even unconsciously, it begins to wither. Sadly, many couples don’t realize that neglect is one of the silent killers of marriage. It doesn’t happen in a day; it creeps in quietly, hidden behind busy schedules, endless responsibilities, and unchecked habits. The Bible reminds us in Song of Solomon 2:15: “Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.” Neglect is one of those little foxes. At first, it looks harmless, but if left unchecked, it destroys love, joy, and intimacy. ‎1. You Don’t Spend Quality Time Together Anymore ‎When your conversations revolve only around bills, children, or work, and there’s no deliberate time for connection, you are unknowingly neglecting your marriage. ‎A couple that once walked hand-in-hand now spends evenings scrol...

Near To The Brokenhearted

Image
NEAR TO THE BROKENHEARTED Introduction:  How is the Lord near to the brokenhearted* (Psalm 34:18) Where is God in the midst of our troubles? According to Psalm 34:18, He is close by: “The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit” (CSB). The question of evil and suffering remains one of the critic’s quickest objections to the existence of God, or at least to the existence of the Christian God. Many Christian thinkers have written insightful books on the subject, and there’s a lot to gain from these resources. However, knowing that suffering can coexist with a good God only solves part of the problem. What about when we are suffering? Theodicy may not help much. We need more than that. The Christian is expected to run to God’s Word for help. Among other passages that bring comfort, Psalm 34:18 offers a reassurance that “the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who a...
