TEACHING OF MEMORY VERSE

What is memory verse? Is anything we put into our memory that we don’t want to forget (A passage in the Bible to be memorise).

Why should we memorise the word of God? It is a command from God. Deut.6:6-7.

Having it in mind that is a command we shall look at the steps by which we can teach.

A.    The Bible is like a –  town

Chapter is like a – street

Verse is like a – house Number.

Therefore your memory verse must be address properly.

B.     Unfamiliar or large words

If the word is difficult Explain e.t.c.

Break it down for the children.

Explain each word.

C.     Explain application

Dramatization/ Eph. 4:31

D.    Make your memory Verse (Work)

i.e. you class must be interesting. Enjoyable

when you are teaching memory verse try to use one version of the Bible.

-         Ask a child to read

-         Read the verse together from flash card.

-         Explain big words

-         Go over the verse several time using cards or key words

-         Let them without card or Bible

-         Give out memory verse token at the end of class.

E.     Vary your method of teaching verse e.g. you can use

-         Black board

-         Flash card

-         Words trips on a chart or flannel board

-         Beanbag

-         Scripture songs

F.     Methods to use in saying verse together.

-         Having all boys say it, than girls

-         Divide into two sides, one side say part of the verse and the other side the other part.

-         Let them close their eyes and say it.

Example: My son forget not my (teaching) Law but let thine heart keep my commandment.
