Possessing Earthly Riches With a Heavenly Mindset
_*Possessing Earthly Riches with a Heavenly Mindset*_
There is nothing inherently wrong with being rich or having many possessions. In fact, throughout the Bible, we see examples of individuals who were wealthy but still loved the Lord and were faithful to Him. For example, Job was a man of great wealth and possessions, but he remained faithful to God in the midst of great suffering.
However, we also see examples of people who were led astray by their wealth. The rich young ruler in Matthew 19:16-22 was not willing to sell all he had and follow Jesus because he loved his possessions more than God. We also see the story of King Ahab, who allowed his desire for more possessions to lead him into sin.
The issue is not with the possessions themselves, but with our mindset towards them. If we see our possessions as something that we have achieved through our own strength, then we have missed the point. Everything we have comes from God, and we are merely stewards of His blessings. Our mindset towards our possessions should be one of gratitude and humility, recognizing that all we have comes from God.
One way to test whether our love for possessions has become too great is to imagine if God were to ask us to lay down everything we have and join Him in His kingdom. Would we be willing to let go of our possessions for the sake of the kingdom? If we cannot answer "yes" to this question, then we may need to re-examine our priorities.
As good stewards of God's blessings, we should also seek to use our possessions to bless others. In 2 Corinthians 9:8-11, we are reminded that God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others. We should not be hoarders of our blessings but instead look for opportunities to share with those in need.
