Shifting Priorities: Investing in Heavenly Treasures
*_Shifting Priorities: Investing in Heavenly Treasures_*
In a world filled with desires and needs, it is easy to prioritize earthly possessions and material comfort. We may believe that accumulating more will bring us happiness and security. However, the truth is that everything we gather here on earth is temporary and subject to decay. Our control over worldly things is limited.
Jesus invites us to a different perspective. He urges us to focus on storing up treasures in heaven, where they are everlasting and immune to deterioration. In Matthew 6:19-20, He says, *"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal."*
Instead of striving for earthly accumulation, we should recognize that every possession we have is a gift from God's grace. In 1 Timothy 6:17, Paul reminds us, *"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy."* Everything we own is a result of God's generosity and should be seen as an opportunity to bless others.
To shift our priorities, we can begin by viewing our possessions as resources to share with those in need. We can seek to make an eternal impact in people's lives by sharing the hope of Jesus with them. As 1 Peter 4:10 states, *"As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God."*
Reflect on what small steps you can take today to redirect your focus from earthly treasure to heavenly treasure. Consider the ways in which God has blessed you and how you can use those blessings to bless others. Spend time in prayer, seeking God's guidance and wisdom in prioritizing eternal matters over temporary possessions.
