Exercising Towards Godliness: Discerning the True Path
Exercising Towards Godliness: Discerning the True Path_*
*But reject profane and old wives' fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness.*
~1 Tim 4:7
From this verse, the Apostle Paul reminds us of the importance of pursuing godliness in our lives and discerning the truth from falsehood.
In a world filled with various teachings and beliefs, it is crucial for us to discern what is true and align our lives with God's Word. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."* By placing our trust in God and seeking His guidance through prayer and studying His Word, we can discern the truth from the falsehoods that may surround us.
In our pursuit of godliness, we are called to live by the principles and teachings of the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 affirms this, stating, *"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."* The Word of God equips us and guides us in our journey towards godliness, helping us to live lives that are pleasing to Him.
As followers of Christ, we are also called to be diligent in our pursuit of godliness. Hebrews 12:1 encourages us, *"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."* We must be intentional in our choices, setting aside anything that hinders our growth in godliness and running the race of faith with endurance.
So, let us heed Paul's exhortation in 1 Timothy 4:7 to reject falsehoods and exercise ourselves toward godliness. By relying on God's Word, seeking His guidance, and living in accordance with His teachings, we can grow in our relationship with Him and become vessels of His love and truth in the world.
