The Day of the Lord: Great and Glorious or Awesome and Terrible?
*_The Day of the Lord: Great and Glorious or Awesome and Terrible?_*
In 2 Peter 3:10, the apostle Peter tells us about the Day of the Lord, a day that is both greatly anticipated and feared. The prophet Joel had also described it as an *"awesome, terrible thing"* in Joel 2:11. So, which will it be—great and glorious or awesome and terrible? The answer lies in our relationship with Jesus Christ.
For those who have put their faith in Jesus and are safe and secure in His salvation, the Day of the Lord will be a time of great rejoicing. Peter, preaching in Jerusalem, referred to it as *"that great and glorious day of the Lord"* (Acts 2:20). On that day, we will be ushered into the fullness of God's presence and experience the eternal joy and glory of being with Him.
However, for those who have not accepted Jesus as their Savior, the Day of the Lord will be a day of awesome and terrifying judgment. *Scripture warns that the ungodly will face the righteous wrath of God on that day* (Romans 2:5-8). It will be a day of reckoning for all who have rejected God's love and salvation.
The choice is ours to make. Will we choose to trust in Jesus and find refuge in Him, or will we reject His offer of salvation and face the consequences of our sin? The Day of the Lord is coming, and it will be a day of both judgment and salvation.
Let us not harden our hearts, but instead, let us turn to God in repentance and faith, seeking His forgiveness and mercy. As 2 Peter 3:9 assures us, *"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."*
May we heed His call and be found in Christ, ready to welcome the great and glorious day of the Lord with joy and anticipation, knowing that our eternal destiny is secure in Him.
