*_Seeking God's Kingdom First: The Priority of the Eternal_*


One of the profound teachings of our Lord Jesus is found in Matthew 6:33 *"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."* This verse raises an essential question: _What did Jesus mean when He instructed us to seek God's kingdom first?_ It means that our top priority in life should be to seek what is eternal.


In this world often consumed by the pursuit of temporary pleasures, wealth, and earthly success, Jesus directs our focus to something far greater: *God's eternal kingdom.*


Colossians 3:1-2 points out the need for a shift in perspective: *"If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth."* Seeking God's kingdom first involves setting our minds on eternal matters, aligning our thoughts with the eternal truths found in God's Word.


Furthermore, 2 Corinthians 4:18 highlights the contrast between the temporary and the eternal: *"While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal."* Seeking God's kingdom means fixing our gaze on the eternal, recognizing the temporary nature of worldly pursuits.


The pursuit of God's kingdom also encompasses living in righteousness. Matthew 6:33 mentions seeking *"His righteousness."* This refers to living in accordance with God's moral standards and seeking to do His will. Psalm 119:172 affirms this truth: *"My tongue shall speak of Your word, for all Your commandments are righteousness."*


The promise that accompanies seeking God's kingdom first is significant. Matthew 6:33 assures us that when we prioritize the eternal, God will provide for our earthly needs. It doesn't mean we neglect our responsibilities, but rather that we trust in God's provision as we seek His kingdom.


Jesus' command to seek God's kingdom first serves as a timeless reminder of our ultimate priority—to focus on what is eternal. It involves shifting our perspective from the temporary to the eternal, living in righteousness, and trusting in God's provision.


May we inspire us to align our lives with the eternal values of God's kingdom, recognizing that in doing so, we find the true abundance and purpose that God offers to those who seek Him above all else.
