Discerning Faith: Navigating Halloween as a Christian

*_Discerning Faith: Navigating Halloween as a Christian_*

As Christians, our faith calls us to discernment in every aspect of our lives, including the cultural practices and traditions we engage in. One topic that often stirs discussion within the Christian community is Halloween. It is important to approach this topic a commitment to aligning our actions with God's Word.

Ephesians 5:11 urges us: *"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them."* This verse reminds us of the importance of discernment in our choices, steering clear of activities associated with darkness and instead exposing them to the light of God's truth.

Halloween, with its roots in various pagan and occult practices, raises concerns among many Christians. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 specifically warns against engaging in practices related to divination, sorcery, or consulting mediums, as they are abominable to the Lord. *"There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you."*

Additionally, 1 Thessalonians 5:22  advises us: *"Abstain from every form of evil."* Participating in Halloween activities that glorify darkness and evil contradicts this biblical instruction.

As Christians, we are called to be a light in the world, reflecting the love and truth of Christ. Matthew 5:14-16 encourages us: *"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."* Our choices, even in seemingly mundane matters like Halloween, can testify to our faith and commitment to living in God's light.

We need to approach cultural practices like Halloween with discernment, seeking God's wisdom and guidance. Let us be mindful of the values and messages these practices convey, ensuring that our choices align with the principles outlined in God's Word.
