Following the Shepherd's Voice: Wisdom from John 10

*_Following the Shepherd's Voice: Wisdom from John 10_*

John 10:2-5

*But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.*

Jesus uses the analogy of a shepherd and his sheep to illustrate an intimate relationship between Him and His followers. This passage reveals profound insights into the shepherd-sheep relationship.

The shepherd's role is important: He knows each sheep by name, leading them out and guiding them along safe paths. He goes before them, ensuring their safety and preparing the way. The sheep are intimately connected to their shepherd, recognizing his voice, and following him because they trust and know him.

This relationship mirrors our bond with Jesus, our Good Shepherd. *The more time we spend in communion with Him, the more attuned we become to His voice.* Just as the sheep distinguish their shepherd's voice from that of strangers, we discern the voice of our Shepherd amidst the cacophony of worldly distractions.

As we deepen our relationship with Christ, His voice becomes clearer amid life's noise. We become more attuned to His guidance, protection, and leading in our daily lives. In knowing His voice, we gain wisdom and discernment, allowing us to discern truth from deceit, light from darkness.

John 10:27 echoes this truth: *"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."* Our continuous communion with the Shepherd strengthens our ability to recognize His voice and follow His leading, not just in exceptional moments but in our day-to-day journey.

Let us strive to spend time with our Shepherd through prayer, reading His Word, and seeking His presence. As we do so, may our hearts become more attuned to His voice, enabling us to follow Him closely and navigate life's paths with confidence, knowing that He goes before us and leads us in righteousness.
