Hebrews 9:27 warns us that *"it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment."* This truth is essential in understanding the deception surrounding the belief that spirits of the dead can come back to visit the living.

The idea that departed spirits, such as deceased relatives, return to visit the living is a deception that has persisted over time. Yet, it's essential to recognize that these supposed manifestations are not the spirits of the departed loved ones but rather deceptive spirits—demons—masquerading as them.

The Scriptures speak of encounters with such deceptive spirits. In 1 Samuel 28:7-20, King Saul sought a medium to summon the spirit of Samuel, a deceased prophet. However, what manifested was not Samuel's spirit but a demonic entity impersonating him. This incident highlights the danger of seeking communion with the dead.

The purpose of these deceptive manifestations is to mislead and distract people from the truth of the Gospel. These spirits aim to perpetuate lies, causing individuals to focus on falsehoods rather than the salvation offered through Jesus Christ.

We must remember that once a person dies, their destiny is sealed—Luke 16:26 emphasizes that *"between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us."* There is no provision for the dead to return to the living; they await their eternal fate in heaven or hell.

It's crucial to discern these deceptive manifestations and rely on the truth of God's Word. Let us remain steadfast in our faith, rejecting any encounters with supposed spirits of the dead. Instead, let us fix our gaze on Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith.
