Preserving Harmony in Christ
*_Preserving Harmony in Christ_*
*"But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!"*
~Galatians 5:15
This cautionary verse prompts us to reflect on the consequences of internal strife and division within the body of believers.
1 Corinthians 1:10 encourages unity, *"Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment."* God desires His children to stand united, expressing the same love and purpose.
As Christians, we are called to cultivate an environment of mutual love and understanding. Ephesians 4:3 emphasizes this, *"endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."* Striving for unity is an active effort to maintain the spiritual harmony bestowed by the Holy Spirit.
Destructive behaviors such as gossip, envy, and contention corrode the fabric of Christian fellowship. Proverbs 6:16-19 warns against sowing discord among brethren, *"These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren."*
Therefore, let us guard against the snares of division, choosing instead to uplift and encourage one another. Colossians 3:13-14 instructs us, *"bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection."*
May our interactions be characterized by love, understanding, and forgiveness, ensuring that we do not succumb to the dangers of internal strife.
