Hebrews 12:25

*"See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven."*

The words of Hebrews 12:25 echo with solemnity, carrying a weighty admonition that beckons us to listen with a discerning heart. The gravity of this message is underlined by the comparison it draws between God's earthly and heavenly communications.

Reflecting on this divine counsel leads us to consider the consequences faced by those who disregarded God's voice on earth. The historical accounts, especially in the Old Testament, vividly illustrate the perils of rejecting the divine instructions. Proverbs 29:1 emphasizes the outcomes of persistent rebellion: *"He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy."*

The juxtaposition in Hebrews 12:25 heightens the significance. If turning away from earthly manifestations of God's will resulted in tangible consequences, how much more perilous is it to turn away from His heavenly communication? The weight of this question prompts us to a deeper reflection on our response to God's voice.

Jeremiah 25:4 highlights the persistence of divine communication: *"And the LORD has sent to you all His servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, but you have not listened nor inclined your ear to hear."* The continual outreach of God emphasizes the seriousness of engaging with His message.

In the New Testament, the Lord Jesus Himself warned against neglecting His teachings. Matthew 7:26-27 illustrates the consequences of disregarding His words: *"But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."*

Hebrews 12:25 stands as a divine alarm, urging believers to listen attentively to the voice that speaks from heaven. In a world filled with competing voices, distractions, and temporal concerns, this passage compels us to recalibrate our spiritual ears to discern and heed the divine utterances.
