Carrying Our Own Armor: The Responsibility of Spiritual Warfare
*_Carrying Our Own Armor: The Responsibility of Spiritual Warfare_*
In the battles of old, Jonathan, the valiant warrior of Israel, had someone to carry his armor into battle. His armorbearer stood by him, ready to assist in the physical struggles against their enemies. It was a partnership in the face of earthly foes.
But unlike Jonathan, we do not have someone to carry our spiritual armor into battle. In the spiritual warfare we face, no one can bear our armor for us. The responsibility falls squarely on our shoulders. Why? Because the armor we wield is not physical, but spiritual—the armor of God.
Ephesians 6:11 reminds us, *"Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil."* We are called to take up each piece of spiritual armor—the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
Our battle is different from Jonathan's; it is spiritual and unceasing. *The adversary, the devil, prowls like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour* (1 Peter 5:8). We must be vigilant and ready at all times, for the enemy does not rest, and neither should we.
So, let us not look for others to carry our armor. Let us not wait for someone else to fight our battles. Instead, let us gird ourselves with the armor of God, standing firm in the faith, knowing that through Him, we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37).
As we face the challenges of life and the spiritual battles that rage around us, may we always remember to put on the armor of God, for in doing so, we find strength, protection, and victory in Him.
