Understanding Our Identity: Saints and Sinners

*_Understanding Our Identity: Saints and Sinners_*

There exists a misconception among some believers that once we accept Christ, we are transformed into sinless saints, no longer worthy of being called sinners. However, let us delve into the truth of Scripture to gain clarity on this matter.

Indeed, the Bible does address believers as saints. Ephesians 1:1 affirms this, stating, *"To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus."* However, being called saints does not imply that we are devoid of sin or incapable of sinning.

As humans, we are fallible and prone to error. 1 John 1:8 reminds us, *"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us."* Even as believers, we are not exempt from the reality of sin. However, the beauty of our faith lies in the assurance that *if we do sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous* (1 John 2:1).

It is crucial to warn against the belief in sinless perfection, as it undermines the very essence of Christ's sacrifice. To claim perfection while on earth is equivalent in seriousness to blasphemy, for it diminishes the significance of the atonement provided by Christ.

Our journey toward sinlessness is a process that culminates in our ultimate perfection when we are united with Him. Philippians 3:20-21 assures us of this truth: *"For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body."*

Let us embrace our identity as saints while acknowledging our humanity as sinners, trusting in the grace of God to guide us on our journey of sanctification.
