Counting the Cost: Embracing the Call to Relationship with God
*_Counting the Cost: Embracing the Call to Relationship with God_*
Our relationship with God is not to be taken lightly. It requires us to count the cost and make a deliberate commitment to live in accordance with His will and His Word. This means we cannot continue to live as we please, indulging in sin and expecting God to welcome us with open arms.
*"For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it—lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him"* (Luke 14:28-29). Just as a builder counts the cost before constructing a tower, we must consider the implications of our relationship with God. It demands a change in lifestyle—a turning away from sin and a commitment to holiness.
As Christians, we are called to say "Yes" and "No" to certain things in life. *"Therefore 'Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you'"* (2 Corinthians 6:17). We say "Yes" to a life of holiness and obedience to God's commandments, and "No" to the ways of the world and sinful desires.
Our commitment to God extends to every area of our lives. We say "Yes" to faithfulness in marriage and "No" to temptation and infidelity (Hebrews 13:4). We say "Yes" to protecting our children from the deceitfulness of sin and "No" to worldly influences that lead them astray (Ephesians 6:4).
*"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God"* (Romans 12:2). As Christians, we are called to live differently from the people of the world because our eternal destination is different. Our relationship with God transforms us from the inside out, shaping our values, priorities, and conduct.
Let us embrace the demands of our relationship with God with humility and obedience, knowing that He has called us to a life of holiness and purpose. May our commitment to Him be evident in every aspect of our lives, reflecting His love and truth to the world.
