Defending Your Family: The Importance of Walking in the Spirit

*_Defending Your Family: The Importance of Walking in the Spirit_*

As parents, you hold a sacred responsibility to lead and nurture your family in the ways of the Lord. You are the first line of defense against the influence of the world, the deceitfulness of sin, and the snares of the enemy. Therefore, it is imperative that you walk in the Spirit, especially if you desire to lead your family in righteousness.

*"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit"* (Rom 8:5). Walking in the Spirit means aligning your thoughts, actions, and priorities with the will of God. It involves seeking His guidance and relying on His strength to navigate the challenges of life and parenthood.

*"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you"* (James 4:7). As parents, you are engaged in a spiritual battle for the hearts and souls of your children. When you walk in the flesh, you become vulnerable to the enemy's attacks, allowing him to gain a foothold in your family's life. But when you walk in the Spirit, you resist the devil's schemes and protect your family from his influence.

*"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law"*(Gal 5:22-23). When you walk in the Spirit, you bear the fruit of righteousness in your life and in your family. Your home becomes a place of love, peace, and joy, where the presence of God is felt and His truth is proclaimed.

Evil is always trying to catch up. When you walk in the flesh, you will slow down or even stop; and that's when evil will finally take hold of you and your family. *"For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish"* (Gal 5:17).

Therefore, dear parents, I urge you to walk in the Spirit, to seek God's wisdom and strength in all that you do. Lead your family with humility, love, and integrity, and point them to Christ in righteousness. Your example will shape their hearts and minds, guiding them on the path of life and godliness.
