Practical Ways to Seek and Experience God's Peace
*Practical ways to seek and experience God's peace.*
1. *Acknowledge Him first thing in the morning.*
Start your day by acknowledging God's presence and committing your day to Him. Begin with prayer and meditation on His Word before engaging in other activities. By prioritizing God in the morning, you set the tone for the rest of your day, aligning yourself with His peace and guidance. As Psalm 5:3 says, *"My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up."*
2. *Guard your eyes and heart.*
Be mindful of what you expose yourself to, both visually and mentally. Avoid consuming media or content that promotes fear, anxiety, or unrealistic expectations. Instead, focus on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report, as Philippians 4:8 instructs. By guarding your eyes and heart, you protect your inner peace from external influences that can disrupt it.
3. *Avoid scandal and gossip.*
Refuse to participate in or entertain gossip and scandalous conversations; be it through our interactions with others or from the entertainment of receiving gossip news. Gossip breeds negativity and discord, leading to a lack of peace among individuals and communities. Proverbs 16:28 warns, *"A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends."* Choose to promote peace by speaking words of encouragement and positivity.
4. *Be grounded in the Word.*
Immerse yourself in God's Word regularly to deepen your understanding of His character and promises. The Bible serves as a source of wisdom, comfort, and guidance, offering solutions to life's challenges. Psalm 119:105 declares, *"Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path."* By studying the Scriptures, you equip yourself with the spiritual armor necessary to withstand the enemy's attacks and experience God's peace.
5. *Peace and holiness.*
Recognize the correlation between peace and holiness in the Christian life. Pursue holiness by living in obedience to God's commands, knowing that sin disrupts our fellowship with Him and hinders our experience of peace. Hebrews 12:14 exhorts, *"Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord."* Embrace a lifestyle of righteousness and integrity, knowing that true peace is found in alignment with God's will.
6. *Practice forgiveness.*
Extend forgiveness to those who have wronged you, releasing resentment and bitterness from your heart. Colossians 3:13 encourages, *"Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do."* By choosing forgiveness, you free yourself from the burden of unforgiveness and experience the peace that comes from reconciliation.
