The Eternal Perspective: Remembering the End Goal in Life
*_The Eternal Perspective: Remembering the End Goal in Life_*
"For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?"
~Matthew 16:26
As Christians, it's essential that we maintain an eternal perspective in our lives. In the grand scheme of eternity, all that we have here and now is just for a little while, and it will not last. *"For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal"* (2 Corinthians 4:18)
Consider the transient nature of earthly possessions and circumstances. Money can be gone in an instant, health will ultimately fail, loved ones will pass away, and one day we will take our very last breath. James 4:14 reminds us, *"Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes."*
This is not to scare you, but rather to set things in the right perspective, especially for those who claim to be Christians. Our ultimate priority should be investing in the things that truly matter for eternity. Matthew 6:19-20 exhorts us, *"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal."*
In light of these truths, let us not become ensnared by the fleeting allure of worldly pursuits. Colossians 3:2 encourages us, "*Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.*" As we fix our gaze on Christ and the eternal hope He offers, may we prioritize our lives accordingly, seeking first His kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33).
