The Intersection of Love and Righteousness: A Biblical Perspective
*_The Intersection of Love and Righteousness: A Biblical Perspective_*
*"Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good."*
~Romans 12:9
There exists a common misconception that love is synonymous with acceptance, even in the face of willful sinfulness. However, as followers of Christ, it is essential to understand that love is not absent of holiness. Today, we explore the profound relationship between love and holiness; dispelling misconceptions and embracing biblical truth.
Love is not merely a warm feeling of acceptance; it is a deep commitment rooted in truth and righteousness. While it is true that love entails acceptance and forgiveness, it also involves discerning right from wrong. 1 Corinthians 13:6 reminds us that love *"does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth."*
Contrary to popular belief, it is lust that is blind, not love. *Lust blinds us to the consequences of sin and leads us down a path of destruction.* However, love, when guided by holiness, sees clearly. It recognizes the destructive nature of sin and seeks to lead others toward righteousness.
*"Whoever says, 'I know Him,' but does not keep His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him."* (1 John 2:4)
As followers of Christ, we are called to love with discernment. We are called to hate what is evil and cling to what is good. This means that we cannot turn a blind eye to sin or compromise our commitment to righteousness in the name of love. 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 urges us to *"test all things; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil."*
Let us be aware that love is not the absence of holiness. May our love be genuine, without hypocrisy, and rooted in truth and righteousness. As we navigate relationships and interactions, may we seek to love others as Christ loves us, with discernment and a commitment to holiness.
