Raising Children in Truth: The Danger of Superstition

*_Raising Children in Truth: The Dangers of Superstition_*

We, as Christians, are called to live according to the truth of God's Word and reject the falsehoods and superstitions of the world. One prevalent form of superstition that many people, including some Christians, get involved with is horoscopes and the belief that star signs determine behavior and character. This belief is not only unbiblical but also demonic.

The Scriptures clearly warn us against engaging in such practices. *"There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer."* (Deu 18:10). Horoscopes and star signs fall under the category of interpreting omens and practicing divination, which God explicitly forbids.

We must be vigilant and draw clear boundaries against such nonsense, as it can affect other areas of our lives. *"Abstain from every form of evil."* (1 Thess 5:22). If we allow superstition to infiltrate our beliefs, we may begin to accept other unbiblical practices, leading us further away from the truth of God's Word.

Consider the seemingly harmless tradition of the tooth fairy. While some may argue that it is just a fun way to let children enjoy their childhood, we must recognize the potential harm in teaching them mystical stories. *"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."* (Pro 22:6). Our children need to be grounded in truth from a young age, and we should seek ways to make their childhood enjoyable without resorting to fabrications.

If we blur the lines between fantasy and reality, how can we expect our children to discern the truth about Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for our sins? *"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"* (John 14:6). We must ensure that our children understand what is true and worthy of belief, starting with the fundamental truths of our faith.

Our children need to be protected from the demonic influences of the world. This protection begins with us, as parents and guardians, by guarding ourselves from such influences. *"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."* (Romans 12:2). As we stay rooted in the truth, we become better equipped to guide our children and shield them from the deceptions of the enemy.

Let us commit to rejecting superstition and false beliefs, upholding the truth of God's Word, and raising our children in the knowledge and fear of the Lord. May we be diligent in protecting our families from the influences of this world and leading them in the paths of righteousness.
