Spiritual Discernment: Understanding the Enemy's Tactics

*_Spiritual Discernment: Understanding the Enemy’s Tactics_*

Ephesians 6:12 reminds us of a critical truth about our Christian journey: *"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."* This verse sheds light on the invisible forces of darkness that are actively working against us. It is foolish for Christians to remain ignorant of these spiritual battles, as these forces are often more active and influential than we realize.

One way the power of darkness manifests is through disruptions on Sunday mornings before church. Many families experience unexpected fights and unrest during this time. A spiritually dull person might continue to argue with their spouse, not realizing that these quarrels are strategic attacks meant to disrupt peace and hinder their worship. James 4:1-2 warns us, *"Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?"* Recognizing these disruptions as spiritual battles can help us resist and seek peace.

Another example is the devil’s tactic of making us feel tired and discouraged about going to church. You might decide to do a live stream instead, thinking it's a convenient alternative. However, you end up getting distracted with chores at home and miss the sermon entirely. Hebrews 10:25 encourages us, *"not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."* Physical presence in fellowship helps us stay focused and encouraged.

Even when we make it to church, the enemy doesn’t stop. He attempts to distract us with life's issues, causing us to use our phones or play games during the sermon. As a result, we miss the message entirely. Jesus cautions in Matthew 13:22, *"Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful."* Being mindful of these distractions and staying engaged in worship is crucial for spiritual growth.

Lastly, the devil deceives many into believing they can claim to be Christians while living godless lives. This lie contradicts Jesus' teaching in John 10:27, *"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."* True believers live in obedience to Christ’s teachings. Living a life contrary to God’s commandments while professing faith is dangerous and self-deceptive.

It is time for Christians to wake up to these spiritual realities. Ephesians 5:14 urges, *"Therefore He says: 'Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.'"* We must be spiritually discerning and vigilant, recognizing the enemy’s tactics and standing firm in our faith. By staying prayerful, grounded in the Word, and actively resisting the devil, we can overcome these invisible battles and live victorious lives in Christ.
