Faith That Pleases God: Learning From the Hall of Faith

*_Faith That Pleases God: Learning from the Hall of Faith_*

Hebrews 11:6 states, *"But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."* This verse highlights the two essential elements of prayer: faith in God’s existence and faith that He cares enough to listen, answer, and move on behalf of those who seek Him.

Each of the men and women in the Hebrews 11 “Hall of Faith” exemplified this kind of faith. They saw the invisible and believed God could do the impossible, pleasing God and receiving great rewards because of their confidence and faith in Him. By faith, Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying (Hebrews 11:5). Noah’s family was saved from the flood because he built an ark in obedience to God’s warning (Hebrews 11:7). Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob left their homes and followed God’s call, even though they did not know where they were going (Hebrews 11:8-9). Sarah bore a son in her old age, believing that God was faithful to fulfill His promise (Hebrews 11:11).

What did this faith look like? Although their circumstances were different, it was faith in what God said, faith in who God is, and faith that God would show them the way into a future they couldn’t see. Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as, *"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."* These heroes of faith trusted in God’s promises and character, even when they could not see the outcome. They believed, and in believing, they saw what they had hoped for.

This is a faith we can build our lives on, and without it, we can’t please God at all. Hebrews 11:6 makes it clear that to come to God, *we must believe in His existence and in His willingness to reward those who diligently seek Him.* Faith is not just intellectual assent; it is a deep trust in God’s nature and His promises.

James 1:6-7 adds another layer to this understanding: *"But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord."* Faith must be unwavering, rooted in the certainty of God’s faithfulness.

Pray earnestly that through the Holy Spirit, your faith in God will grow. Romans 10:17 says, *"So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."* Immerse yourself in Scripture, surround yourself with testimonies of God’s faithfulness, and seek His presence in prayer. As your faith deepens, you will find that you can trust God with the unseen and the unknown, confident that He is who He says He is and that He will do what He has promised.
