Jesus As Lord: Beyond Mere Words
*_Jesus as Lord: Beyond Mere Words_*
In Luke 6:46, Jesus poses a solemn question: *"But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and not do the things which I say?"* This question challenges us to examine the authenticity of our faith and our relationship with Christ. Jesus is not only our Savior but also our Lord, and true recognition of His lordship necessitates obedience to His commands.
Many people acknowledge Jesus as Savior, delighting in the promise of salvation and the hope of eternal life. However, recognizing Him as Lord requires more—it demands a life of submission and obedience. In Matthew 7:21, Jesus warns, *"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven."* This verse highlights the importance of doing God's will as a testament to our genuine faith.
Jesus will not be your Savior if He is not your Lord. Salvation is not a license to live as we please but a call to live in accordance with His will. Romans 10:9 emphasizes the need for both belief and confession: *"that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."* Confessing Jesus as Lord implies a commitment to follow His teachings and commands.
Furthermore, John 14:15 makes it clear that love for Jesus is demonstrated through obedience: *"If you love Me, keep My commandments."* Our love for Christ is not merely an emotional expression but an active, daily decision to live according to His word. True discipleship involves surrendering our will to His and allowing His teachings to shape our lives.
In James 1:22, we are admonished to be doers of the word, not merely hearers: *"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."* Mere acknowledgment of Jesus as Lord without corresponding action is self-deception. Obedience to Christ's commands is the evidence of our faith and the fruit of our salvation.
Finally, Philippians 2:9-11 underscores the universal recognition of Jesus' lordship: *"Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."* This passage reminds us that Jesus' lordship is supreme and will be acknowledged by all.
Calling Jesus "Lord" is more than a verbal declaration; it is a call to live a life of obedience and submission to His will. Jesus is not just our Savior but also our Lord, and we must honor Him as such by doing what He says.
