Rising Above: Seeking God in Times of Depression

*_Rising Above: Seeking God in Times of Depression_*

Depression can often be described as the inability to handle life’s challenges. This message is not intended to undermine the fact that life can be incredibly hard and that people face serious challenges. The death of loved ones, health issues, financial hardships, and relationship problems can all be overwhelming. These situations can push anyone to the brink and make coping feel impossible.

However, the key is not to remain stuck in the mindset that you are a victim. It is essential to be willing to break free from the vicious cycle in your mind. Even if you were the victim of past situations, you are responsible for not staying in a mindset of depression. The enemy wants you to be stuck in a mindset of self-pity. You may become so entangled in this mindset that you are unaware you have taken pride in your depression.

It's time to wake up and seek God for wisdom in life and to be free from self-inflicted pity that leads to depression. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us, *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."* By trusting in God and submitting to His guidance, we can navigate through life’s toughest challenges.

Depression often makes us feel isolated and helpless, but Psalm 34:17-18 provides comfort: *"The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit."* God is close to those who are hurting and promises deliverance from our troubles.

Life is undeniably hard, which is why we need to acknowledge our need for God and submit to His leadership. 1 Peter 5:6-7 advises us, *"Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."* Humbling ourselves before God and casting our cares on Him allows us to experience His peace and strength.

Philippians 4:6-7 further instructs us, *"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."* By bringing our anxieties and concerns to God in prayer, we can find peace that transcends understanding.

It's time to recognize that even if past situations made you a victim, you are responsible for moving forward. Seek God’s wisdom and strength to break free from depression. Life's difficulties remind us all the more of our need for God. Submit to His leadership, trust in His guidance, and let His peace guard your heart and mind.
