Keep the Flame Alive: The Power of Consistent Prayer

*_Keep the Flame Alive: The Power of Consistent Prayer_*

In the Old Testament, the priests were tasked with nurturing the tender flame on the altar, which symbolized the prayers of the children of Israel. They burned special incense, ensuring that a continual sweet fragrance wafted before God. *"And the Lord said to Moses: 'Take sweet spices, stacte and onycha and galbanum, and pure frankincense with these sweet spices; there shall be equal amounts of each. You shall make of these an incense, a compound according to the art of the perfumer, salted, pure, and holy'"* (Exodus 30:34-35). This act was not just ritualistic; it was a sacred duty that reflected the importance of prayer and communion with God.

Today, we no longer need to burn candles or incense to come into God's presence. Because of Christ's sacrifice, we have the incredible privilege to freely fellowship with Him anywhere and at any time. However, in our busy lives, we often place other things on the altar, allowing our prayer lives to smolder. We can lose that precious one-on-one time with God, letting the busyness of the day overshadow our need to connect with Him.

When we pray, we connect with the Lord and find refuge in the shelter of His love. Psalm 91:1-2 reminds us, *"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.'"* It is in our quiet time with God that we seek answers, find guidance, and are refreshed.

Is daily prayer a part of your life? When you make prayer a priority, you will walk closely with the Lord, and His peace will encompass your life. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us, *"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."*

Prayer not only strengthens us but is also a sweet fragrance before a God who longs to communicate with His children. Make prayer a daily practice, keeping the flame of your spiritual life burning brightly before God.
