WATCHING IN ALL THINGS

WATCHING IN ALL THINGS

Texts: Mattew 26:41,45; 13:3-6; Luke 21:36

Introduction:

More than ever before the time we are in now calls for watching In All Things. This is the time to be extra ordinary careful. So many things appear to be “true” but they are not. Almost everything and everybody would be fake or faked. These are days when it has become increasingly difficult to know who is a friend and who is an enemy.

But glory be to God, we have a friend who is closer to us than a brother. He said: “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends for everything that I learned from my Father, I have made known to you” John 15:15. Hymn: “ I have found a friend in Jesus…”

I HAVE FOUND A FRIEND IN JESUS

I have found a friend in Jesus, He’s everything to me,
He’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul;
The Lily of the Valley, in Him alone I see
All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole.
In sorrow He’s my comfort, in trouble He’s my stay;
He tells me every care on Him to roll.

Refrain:
He’s the Lily of the Valley, the Bright and Morning Star,
He’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.

VERSE 2

He all my grief has taken, and all my sorrows borne;
In temptation He’s my strong and mighty tow’r;
I’ve all for Him forsaken, and all my idols torn
From my heart and now He keeps me by His pow’r.
Though all the world forsake me, and Satan tempt me sore,
Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal.

VERSE 3

He’ll never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here,
While I live by faith and do His blessed will;
A wall of fire about me, I’ve nothing now to fear,
From His manna He my hungry soul shall fill.
Then sweeping up to glory to see His blessed face,
Where rivers of delight shall ever roll.

Watching in All Things:

In the spiritual exercise, there are two things that believers must do and do always: Watching and Praying.

 Why?

 Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak”. Many times, our spirit may be willing but often times our flesh is weak. In this passage, will you say that the disciples prayed for Jesus? Why do we have to watch? “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowl around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of suffering” 1 Peter 5:8-9.

How?

We watch by staying awake and vigilant. We must always be constantly on the lookout, particularly for dangerous signs or impending danger. As Christians; we should be like men of Issachar, “men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do. 1 Chronicles 12:32. These were men – a tribe of scholars who studied the Torah, like you and I studying the Bible today. We have to harness all the resources God gave to us so that our lives are fixed and focused on God.

What are the things to watch?

-         Doctrines.

-         Times and seasons as the warning signs unfold.

-         What we eat and drink.

-         What we say and do – are we consistent and faithful.

-         Our commitment and reliability.

-         Our attitude, actions and reactions.

-         Our prayer life and service to God and man.

Our relationship, demonstration of our love.
