OPEN THE EYES OF MY HEART – EPHESIANS 1:17-19
OPEN THE EYES OF MY HEART– EPHESIANS 1:17-19
If
there is any prayer that every believer ought to pray every day, it is that,
Lord open my eyes. There are the physical eyes with which we navigate our ways
and see all things in our surrounding. This act enables us not to stumble or
fall. It gives us direction as we move on daily basis. Where this is impaired,
life becomes miserable. As there are physical eyes, so there are spiritual
eyes.
God
wants us to open our spiritual eyes to the awesome and incredible things that
are now ours in Jesus Christ. Often our view of God and our experience with Him
is much, much smaller than it should be. Jesus wants us to expand our knowledge
of God. He wants us to realize that God who hung the stars, created the
galaxies, and keeps the earth in its proper orbit has a destiny for us that is
so fantastic we cannot conceive of it in our wildest imagination.
It
takes God, by His Spirit and His Word and in fact, by revelation to open the
spiritual eyes of any man. Paul, in his earnest prayer for the Ephesians’
church: said: “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may
give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the
eyes of your understanding being enlightened’ that you may know what is the
hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the
saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe,
according to the working of His mighty power”. Eph 1:17-19.
In
2 Kgs 6:4-7: Elisha’s servant panicked when he saw a great army surrounding
them. But Elisha prayed that the Lord would open his eyes so he could look into
spiritual reality or the invisible realm and really see what was happening v
17. When the servant’s eyes were opened, he saw “the mountain was full of
horses and chariots of fire around Elisha” v 17. Elisha amazed his servant by
asking God to let him see into the invisible realm. This is a critical lesson
for every child of God. God wants us to understand that this physical reality
that we see with our physical senses is not all that there is to reality. The
Bible teaches that there is a spiritual world, an unseen dimension or invisible
realm that is, in fact, more real than what we see. What happens in the
invisible realm determines what happens in the physical world.
Now,
the promises of God are “yea” and “amen” in Christ Jesus – 2 Cor 1:20. By two
immutable things – the promise and the oath, it is impossible for God to lie –
Heb 6:18. God is unchangeable – what He did for the fathers of faith and they
had testimonies, He is still doing it today and you will also have testimony.
Heb 11:32-35. This, therefore greatly depends on the enlightening of the eyes –
seeing as God sees, insisting and relying on what He says as against the
situation or the circumstances.
