Power for Service

 



Introduction:

Power for service refers to the spiritual empowerment believers receive from God through the Holy Spirit—not for status or control, but to serve others, glorify God, and advance His purposes. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses…” (Acts 1:8). The Holy Spirit is understood as the third Person of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is God’s living presence at work in the world and in believers.


Common ways the Holy Spirit is described in the Bible:

a) Comforter / Helper – brings peace, guidance, and strength (John 14:26)

b) Teacher – leads people into truth and understanding

c) Conviction – makes people aware of sin and the need for God

d) Empowerer – gives spiritual gifts and boldness to live our faith

e) Sanctifier – helps believers grow in holiness and character

f) Symbols often associated with the Holy Spirit include wind, fire, dove, and breath, all pointing to His life-giving and transforming power.


Key Elements:

a) Source of Power: God, through the Holy Spirit (not human strength)

b) Purpose: Service, love, witness, and sacrifice

c) Expression: Humility, compassion, obedience, and faithfulness

d) Model: Jesus Christ—power shown through servanthood (Mark 10:45)


Practical Applications:

a) Serving in ministry with dependence on prayer

b) Using spiritual gifts to build others up

c) Persevering in difficult service through God’s strength

d) Living out faith throu

gh love and action.
