BEING A GOOD STEWARD 

Stewardship is the faithful and responsible management of everything God has entrusted to us. As Christians, we believe that our lives, talents, time, resources, and the environment are gifts from God. Therefore, being a good steward means using these gifts wisely, responsibly, and for God's glory. A good steward recognizes that nothing truly belongs to them; instead, they are caretakers of God's blessings. Stewardship is not limited to money alone but extends to every aspect of life.

The Bible teaches that God is the Creator and Owner of all things. Psalm 24:1 declares, "The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein." This verse reminds us that everything we possess belongs to God. Since He is the rightful owner, we have the responsibility to manage His gifts according to His will. Whether it is our family, education, health, finances, or abilities, we should use them in ways that honor Him.

One important area of stewardship is the proper use of time. Time is a precious gift that cannot be recovered once it is lost. Christians are encouraged to make good use of every opportunity. Ephesians 5:15–16 says, "See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil." This means that we should avoid wasting time and instead devote it to productive activities such as studying, working diligently, serving others, praying, and worshipping God.

Another aspect of good stewardship is the wise management of money and material possessions. God blesses people with resources not only for their own needs but also to help others and support His work. Proverbs 3:9 instructs us, "Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase." Christians are called to avoid greed, save wisely, give generously, and use their wealth responsibly. Jesus also taught in Luke 16:10, "He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much." Faithfulness in small responsibilities prepares us for greater ones.

Good stewardship also includes caring for God's creation. In Genesis 2:15, the Bible says, "And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it." From the beginning, God gave humanity the responsibility of caring for the earth. Today, this means protecting the environment by avoiding pollution, planting trees, conserving natural resources, and treating animals with kindness. Caring for creation reflects our gratitude and respect for the Creator.

Furthermore, God has given every individual unique talents and abilities. These gifts are meant to be developed and used for the benefit of others. 1 Peter 4:10 says, "As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." Whether someone has the gift of teaching, singing, leadership, craftsmanship, or encouragement, they should use it to serve God and their community instead of seeking personal glory alone.

Being a good steward also means living a life of honesty, integrity, and accountability. Jesus illustrated this in the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14–30), where servants were rewarded according to how faithfully they managed what their master had entrusted to them. Those who worked diligently were praised, while the servant who wasted his opportunity was rebuked. This parable teaches that God expects us to be faithful and productive with every opportunity He gives us.

In our daily lives, students can practice good stewardship by studying hard, respecting school property, obeying their parents and teachers, helping classmates, and using their knowledge to make positive contributions to society. Adults can demonstrate stewardship by working honestly, caring for their families, serving their communities, and supporting those in need. Every act of faithfulness, no matter how small, is valuable in God's sight.

In conclusion, being a good steward is a lifelong responsibility that requires faithfulness, wisdom, honesty, and love. God has entrusted us with many blessings, and He expects us to use them wisely for His glory and the benefit of others. By managing our time, talents, money, and the environment responsibly, we demonstrate our obedience and gratitude to God. As 1 Corinthians 4:2 reminds us, "Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful." Therefore, every Christian should strive to be a faithful steward, knowing that one day we will give an account to God for how we have managed the gifts He has entrusted to us.
