The Gospel And the Discipline of Worship

Image
*The Gospel and the Discipline of Worship*   _We need the gospel before we can worship._  Many worshippers fail to realize that it is possible to worship God in vain. In Matthew 15:9, Jesus quotes the rebuke of God given through the prophet Isaiah: "This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." So people can worship the true God - even with the God-given words and forms of worship — and yet worship in vain. Jesus said of Himself, "No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6), meaning that apart from a knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ there is no access to or genuine worship of God. Of course, more than a mere knowledge of the gospel is needed to worship God. As Jesus declared, "God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:24). In order to "worship in spirit and truth," a person must be in...

A Call to Wholehearted Devotion

Image
A Call to Wholehearted Devotion_ There is a profound desire that resides within our hearts – a longing to be utterly lost in the depths of God's ways, to plunge into His mysteries without hesitation, and to immerse ourselves in His divine presence. This desire signifies a wholehearted trust, a fearless surrender to the vastness of God's love and wisdom. Proverbs 3:5-6 guides us: *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."* God desires His children to trust Him completely, to jump into His ways with both feet, acknowledging His sovereignty over every aspect of our lives. Jeremiah 29:13 reveals God's longing for us: *"And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart."* God yearns for a wholehearted pursuit of Him, an unreserved seeking that leads us to the depths of His presence and wisdom. In the pursuit of God's ways, P...

Saved By His Life

*SAVED BY HIS LIFE*   _Romans 5:10_   __For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly._   _For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die._   _But God commendet His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us._    _Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him._   _For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.__  "For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son; much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."  The little summary of the thought that Paul follows here is this, our Lord Jesus was delivered for our offenses and raised again for our justification.  In the blood of Christ, the wrath of God wa...

Remembering God's Worth Above Blessings

Image
*_Remembering God's Worth Above Blessings_* We often receive blessings and favor from our Heavenly Father. These blessings bring us joy, comfort, and abundance in various forms. However, it is crucial that we never forget God, who is the source of all blessings and worth more than any material or earthly treasure. Matthew 6:33 sets a fundamental principle for us: *"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."* God encourages us to prioritize seeking Him above all else, trusting that He will provide our needs and bless us abundantly. It is vital to remember that God is worth more than the blessings He bestows. As we cherish God's presence and seek His righteousness, we come to recognize that His worth surpasses anything this world can offer. One striking example of this principle is found in the lives of Jesus' disciples. When Jesus called Peter, Andrew, James, and John, they were fishermen casting their ne...
